🤝 Settling up
As you log expenses, the “Settlement” tab automatically shows “who pays whom, and how much.” Leave the tedious split math to Evere.
Reading the settlement screen
Section titled “Reading the settlement screen”The Settlement tab shows the following.
- Summary — total number of expenses and total amount
- Settlement status — the amount and ratio of settled vs. unsettled
- Payment comparison — a chart comparing each participant’s “amount paid” vs. “amount owed”
- By currency / By category — breakdowns by currency or category
- Settlement — the list of who should pay whom, and how much
- Budget — usage status, if a budget is set (budgets are a Pro feature)
Smart settlement vs. pairwise settlement
Section titled “Smart settlement vs. pairwise settlement”You can choose between two ways of displaying the settlement (switch it in settings).
- Smart settlement — aggregates debts and shows the arrangement that needs the fewest number of transfers. Fewer back-and-forths to finish settling.
- Pairwise settlement — shows who owes whom, per pair, as-is.
Marking things as settled
Section titled “Marking things as settled”Once the money has actually changed hands, tap the item on the settlement screen, confirm, and mark it settled.
- Settled amounts are excluded from further calculations.
- The states are “settled,” “partially settled,” and “unsettled.”
- Made a mistake? Unsettle to revert.
You can manage settlement at three levels of granularity.
- Per expense — mark an individual expense as settled
- Per settlement flow — mark settled by the “who pays whom” line on the settlement screen
- The whole project — mark it all settled at once (see Projects)
Sharing a settlement report
Section titled “Sharing a settlement report”Choosing “Share settlement report” on the settlement screen shares the result as formatted text. Paste it into a group chat and even people without the app can see the result.
When sharing, you can choose:
- What to share — result only, or with the expense history
- Whether to include participant info and receipt images
- Whether to add a converted amount in a sub-currency
